8 natural remedies for PMS relief

These natural PMS remedies are a great way to get you feeling centred again! Get some medicine-free ideas for effective PMS relief.

Natural PMS treatments, yes ... they can help to ease your pain! The bloating. The cramps. The agony! PMS can be, well, a pain, but you don’t have to get out the pain relievers just yet. If you’re looking for some pill-free remedies for your symptoms, try these all-natural ideas for PMS relief.

  1. Eat complex carbohydrates such as foods with whole grains, beans, brown rice or lentils. Calcium-rich foods are good too. Think salmon and spinach.
  2. Reduce your intake of fat, sugar, salt and caffeine. We know: that’s all the fun stuff! But really, this will help cut down on that bloaty feeling.
  3. Break up your meal routine into six smaller meals instead of three big ones. Eating more frequently might help your blood sugar to stabilise better, helping you to feel better.
  4. Get aerobic exercise. And one and two and three and four … It’ll lift your mood and may help you to sleep better too. Light stretching may help with period pains and menstrual cramps without resorting
    to medical PMS remedies.
  5. Get a full eight hours of sleep a night, every night. It seems so simple, but you can fight that drained feeling so much better on a full night’s sleep. Bonus: beauty rest! When you wake up from a deep sleep, it gives you a fresh, confident look, even when you feel at your yuckiest.
  6. Reduce your stress, as stress can trigger PMS symptoms. Read, meditate or pop to your favourite
yoga studio. Your instructor may have suggestions for poses that are especially helpful with PMS
    relief.
  7. Experiment with supplements. With the help of your doctor, of course! They’ll have the best ideas
since they know your medical history and current medications. Calcium, magnesium supplements or vitamin E are a few supplements they may suggest.
  8. Join a self-help or support group. Sometimes, PMS can make everyday issues feel so much bigger than they really are. Or they can make you feel like you’re just not up to handling it all. We’ve all been there. Talking with others will relieve that emotional strain.

Not Helping?

If all else fails, don’t be afraid to ask for help – find a doctor or nurse sympathetic to your condition who can explore medications and other more aggressive PMS remedies and treatments with you.
